Banerjea will help TBC define the infrastructure roadmap from neuron-derived AI inference optimization to real-time inference and biological compute

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Biological Computing Co. (TBC), an applied biological computing company that uses real neurons to improve AI models, today announced that Atish Banerjea, former Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Meta, has joined the company as Strategic Advisor, Real-Time Inference and Biological Compute.

TBC is an applied biological computing company that uses real neurons to improve AI models, studying how neurons process information and translating those discoveries into software that makes AI better, faster and more efficient. Those discoveries will shape new AI architectures and ultimately enable real-time biological computing, where biology works alongside silicon to power AI directly.

Banerjea will work with TBC’s founders and technical leadership to define the staged path from the company’s neuron-derived AI video generation model to production-scale, real-time inference and ultimately, biological computing systems in which real neurons work alongside silicon directly. His role will span systems architecture, infrastructure strategy, organizational design, technical milestones and strategic partnerships.

“Biological computing will not become real because of one scientific breakthrough,” said Banerjea. “It will become real when the science, systems architecture, infrastructure and operating model work together. TBC has already crossed an important threshold by turning discoveries from real neurons into software that improves AI on the infrastructure companies use today. The next challenge is much bigger: building the systems that eventually allow biology and silicon to compute together. That’s the problem I’m here to help solve.”

From neuron-derived software to biological infrastructure

Today, TBC uses real neurons inside its discovery process, not inside the customer’s inference workflow.

TBC’s scientists study how living neural networks process information, identify useful computational principles and translate those findings into lightweight software that improves existing AI models. The resulting products run entirely on conventional AI infrastructure with no biological hardware or new customer workflow required.

The company is starting with generative video and world models where quality, latency and inference cost are especially demanding and measurable. TBC’s longer-term goal is real-time biological computing, where real neurons and silicon work together as part of the active inference system. To date, TBC has raised a total of $52.5 million, with the latest a $25 million seed extension led by Builders VC, with Wonder Ventures, Jeff Dean and Tusk Ventures also contributing.

Banerjea will lead TBC’s effort to define what must be true at each stage of that progression, pressure-testing requirements including latency, throughput, reliability, observability, orchestration, read-and-write bandwidth, biological substrate stability, security, cloud deployment and model-serving integration.

Banerjea will also advise TBC on its internal build prospects,  what should be developed with cloud and hardware partners, and what technical proof points hyperscalers and model companies will need to see before deploying the technology at scale. His work will extend to the organizational structure and talent required across AI inference, MLOps, platform engineering, systems integration, security and partner engineering.

“Atish has spent his career turning ambitious technology into systems that work reliably at extraordinary scale,” said Alex Ksendzovsky, co-founder and CEO of TBC. “We have already shown that discoveries from real neurons can improve AI software today. The next challenge is building the infrastructure, partnerships and operating discipline required to move from model optimization to an entirely new computing substrate. Atish is uniquely equipped to help us forge that path.”

Experience building technology at global scale

Banerjea joined Facebook, now Meta, as CIO in 2016. In that role, he transformed the company’s global Enterprise Engineering function into an AI-first, product-driven organization, while overseeing the corporate infrastructure and internal platforms supporting Meta’s worldwide operations.

Before joining Meta, Banerjea served as Executive Vice President and CIO of NBCUniversal. He previously held senior technology leadership roles at Dex One and Pearson, where his work included enterprise transformation, global infrastructure and large-scale technology investment.

He currently advises boards and investors on AI, technology strategy, M&A and enterprise transformation.

“Atish understands that architecture, organization and partner strategy are not separate problems and they must be solved in unison,” said Jon Pomeraniec, co-founder and COO of TBC. “Together, we are building a roadmap that is ambitious enough to matter and disciplined enough to execute.”

Banerjea’s initial engagement will focus on establishing a clear 12-, 24- and 36-month roadmap, identifying the largest technical and organizational risks and creating the milestones that will guide TBC’s work with cloud providers, model companies, hardware partners and future customers.
